You may generate a complete backup of your account at any time. This can be used if you are about to make modifications to your website, for example upgrading your CMS platform or simply require a backup for the purpose of disaster/recovery.

Generate & download a full cPanel backup

1. Login to your cPanel account
2. Select 'Backups' under the 'Files' tab
3. Select 'Download a Full Website Backup' button
4. You will be presented with 2 options (backup detination & email address)

  • Home Directory: Stores the backup in the root directory of your hosting service - eg. /home/username/backup-12.12.2015-username.tar.gz
  • Remote FTP Server: Sends the backup to the FTP server defined by you.
  • Remote FTP Server (Passive Mode Transfer): Sends the backup to the FTP server defined by you using passive mode.
  • SCP: Sends the backup via SCP to a defined location.
5. Enter the email address you wish to receive notification to once the backup completes
6. Select 'Generate Backup'

Downloading backups

Once a backup has been generated successfully you will be notified via email (email that was defined in step 4 under 'Generate & download a full cPanel backup').

1. Login to your cPanel account
2. Select 'Backups' under the 'Files' tab
3. Select 'Download a Full Website Backup' button
4. A link will be displayed at the top of the page (eg. backup-12.12.2015-username.tar.gz).

The above backup can also be used to restore your site on another providers cPanel platform.
